Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Carpal Tunnel syndrome is compression of the Median Nerve as it passes underneath the transverse carpal ligament at the front of the hand.
The symptoms often include:
- weakness with gripping objects
- swelling in the fingers
- pins and needles in the thumb, first and second finger
- burning sensation in the hands
- symptoms worse with hypothyroidism, computer use and pregnancy
Treatment for carpal tunnel syndrome can involve:
- soft tissue release of the muscles in the hand, forearm, shoulder, neck and upper back
- articulation of the joints in the hands (carpals), elbow, shoulder and neck
- stretch of the muscles and fascia
- taping the hand = open up the transverse carpal ligament, reducing compression
- cupping along the nerve pathway to decompress the space around the nerves
- stretches and exercises to help alleviate the symptoms
